Curse at Ravenscourt: This book was good, but it was pretty easy IMO to figure out about half way through the book who did it. I'm not going to give parts of the book away incase some people have yet to read it, but it was a good book(better than Marisol's book IMO). There is a surprise at the end of the book(I'm not going to give it away, but someone is pregnant). I would give this book an A-.
Danger at the Zoo: I think this book was pretty good, but it could have been much better. I would give this a B+.

I haven't read either yet, but my 11 year old daughter read The Curse of Ravenscourt and thought it was great. I really need to read it soon but I want to read the last two books of the Samantha series first. All I know is that Nicolle read it really fast so she must have liked it.

Thanks for the review. I WISH most zoo were free, but I've never in my life been to one that was. I'm guess in you live in Wash DC or St. Louis? The Atlanta Zoo costs nearly 50.00 for one adult to take one child.
There is a national recipricol system, where if you belong to one zoo, (have a year's pass) you can get into 140 others around the country for free. This would be unnecessary if zoos were free, and wouldn't be a draw unless they were expensive. Because of this, I'd doubt more than a handful (at most) zoos are free ( but ours is the higest I know of). We have been to zoos that ranged form about 6.50 per person up to what our local one is.
Peopel think of zoos as good cheap fun, but of all museums, aquariums are the most expensive to keep up and zoos come second. If they are not substantially subsidized by government entities they have to charge - a lot, or the animals get very poor care.
When I was little we paid 5 or 10 cents to get into the Lincon Zoo, which was not much of a much. I have a 1940's children's reader where they go to the zoo and there is a sign that says 10 cents to see the monkeys. And, there is the slightly naughty children's ditty from ww2 circa Australia (or maybe England, but I got it from a Tazzie) that goes:
Ask your mother for 6 pence
to go to the zoo.
See the big giraffes,
pimples on their -
ask your mother for 6 pence to go to the zoo.
See the elephants,
pimples on their-
ask your mother for 6 pence...
you get the idea.
So, I think a quarter sounds way off, too, for the depression. The movies were a nickle or dime, from what I've read. I think Kit would have paid a nickle to go to the zoo. Probably the nickle that came with her accessories.
